Exercise 1 - Characteristics Associated with Employee Absenteeism

Our psychology department has been asked to study employee absenteeism at each of two campuses, West Palm Beach and Orlando. For a sample of 30 employees at each campus, the number of absences over a three-year period and the employee's years of service are recorded. Exercise 2 - The Putative Characteristics Associated with Good Performance on Literature Tests

Are there benefits associated with attending a study session prior to taking a literature test? We'll see. In addition, it is believed that another factor in student test performance, besides whether a student attended a study session, was simply the quality of the student. Students' grand point averages (GPAs) were used to characterize student quality. Finally, it was suspected that a student's class (freshman, sophomore, etc.) might explain some of the observed variation among grades. Test these hypothesis and interpret the model.

Exercise 3 - Factors Influencing Complaints in Nursing Home Facilities

A recent study investigating factors that affect the number of complaints about long-term care for the aging in Virginia. One potential factor is how complaint resolution is handled. Currently, it is handled by a local program with ostensibly different resources depending on the locality, or directly by the state department for the aging. Additional factors that may influence the number of complaints received were the number of beds available at a particular long-term care facility, and where the facility is located (rural, urban, or a mixture of the two). The data are based on complaints in 2008.
